To count votes fairly, we need to tell one device from another. At the same time, we try to store as little as possible, for as short a time as possible.
What we store
- We don't store your IP address. Instead, we store a hash of the network (/24) with a salt that is different for each poll. The address can't be recovered from the hash, and hashes from different polls can't be matched with each other.
- The network hash and the browser identifier are deleted after 30 days.
- The time of the vote is stored to the nearest hour.
- We work out the country using the DB-IP Lite database (IP Geolocation by DB-IP, licensed under CC BY 4.0) and store only the country code.
Cookies
The pv cookie is used only for the one-vote-per-device rule. It isn't used for advertising and isn't shared with third parties. If you delete it, the site will forget that you've already voted on this device.
Analytics
Pages on this site use Google Analytics 4 so we can see how many people visit and where they come from. It sets its own cookies (_ga, _ga_*); how Google handles this data is explained in Google's policy. The widget on other sites doesn't use Google Analytics.
Accounts
There's no sign-up and there are no accounts. We don't ask for your name, e-mail or phone number to vote. So we can't link a vote to a particular person, and we don't.
Contact
Send questions about your data through the feedback form. We keep your message so we can reply; if you left an e-mail address, we delete it after 90 days.
