A city you would love for a week is not necessarily the one you would want to live in. This poll is only about the trip: where would you rather spend a holiday?
Why London
- Centuries of history in one place: royal palaces, medieval churches, Roman remains and the Tower of London.
- Many of its major national museums and galleries are free to enter, from the National Gallery to the Natural History Museum.
- Large royal parks, riverside walks along the Thames and old pubs make for easy, slow days.
- The weather is mild all year: rarely very hot or very cold, although a grey, drizzly day can come in any month.
Why New York
- The skyline is a sight in itself, whether from a rooftop, a ferry or the Brooklyn Bridge.
- Broadway, jazz clubs, Central Park and food from every corner of the world, often within walking distance of each other.
- Manhattan's grid makes the city easy to find your way around on foot, and the Subway runs 24 hours a day.
- Every neighbourhood feels different, from Harlem to Greenwich Village to Brooklyn.
Late spring and early autumn are the easiest seasons for either city: New York summers are hot and humid and its winters can be snowy. The flight between them takes about 7–8 hours.
